Short gastric arteries
Arteriae gastricae breves
Definition
Short gastric arteries are a group of small arterial vessels (typically 4 to 6 in number) that arise from the splenic artery and its terminal branches, as well as from the left gastroepiploic artery. They course through the gastrosplenic ligament to supply the fundus and upper portion of the greater curvature of the stomach.
They anastomose with branches of the left gastric artery and the left gastroepiploic artery along the greater curvature, contributing to the rich collateral blood supply of the stomach.
