Sinus of venae cavae
Sinus venarum cavarum
- Synonym: Sinus venarum
Definition
the sinus of the venae cavae is the smooth-walled posterior portion of the right atrium, derived from the embryonic sinus venosus, and serves as the entry site for the superior and inferior vena cava, as well as the coronary sinus and associated venous tributaries
It is a large quadrangular cavity placed between the two venæ cavæ. Its walls, which are extremely thin, are connected below with the right ventricle, and medially with the left atrium, but are free in the rest of their extent.
