Definition

Antoine Micheau

The submandibular triangle is an anatomical region of the neck, also known as the digastric triangle. It is defined by three boundaries: superiorly by the inferior border of the mandible, anteroinferiorly by the anterior belly of the digastric muscle, and posteroinferiorly by the posterior belly of the digastric muscle and the stylohyoid muscle. The floor of the triangle is formed by the mylohyoid and hyoglossus muscles. The contents of the submandibular triangle include the submandibular gland, lymph nodes, the facial artery and vein, the hypoglossal nerve, and portions of the lingual and marginal mandibular nerves.
