Superior cerebellar vein

Vena superior cerebelli

Definition

The superior cerebellar vein is an inconstant unpaired vein formed by the union of the superior vein of vermis and the precentral cerebellar vein, that drains into the great cerebral vein (of galen) in the quadrigeminal cistern.

When the superior cerebellar vein is absent, the superior vein of vermis and the precentral cerebellar vein drain directly into the great cerebral vein.

The superior cerebellar vein is not officially listed in the TA1, TA 2 and TNA, and the plural term “superior cerebellar veins” in these nomenclatures refer to the superior veins of cerebellar hemisphere that empty into the superior petrosal sinus.
