Transverse occipital sulcus

Sulcus occipitalis transversus

Definition

The transverse occipital sulcus is a posterior extension of the intraparietal sulcus on the outer surface of the occipital lobe. The transverse occipital sulcus forms a T-shaped ending on the occipital lobe's lateral surface.

It should be differentiated from the lunate sulcus which is also visible on the outer surface of the occipital lobe and extends across a significant portion of the occipital lobe, but closer to its rear end and typically has a vertical alignment.
