Uncinate process of ethmoid bone

Processus uncinatus ossis ethmoidei

  • Related terms: Uncinate process

Definition

The uncinate process of ethmoid bone is a small, thin bony projection that stretches backward from the bottom of the ethmoidal labyrinth. It lies beneath the ethmoidal bulla and eventually joins with the inferior nasal concha. This creates a curved channel known as the semilunar hiatus, which serves as a drainage pathway for several paranasal air sinuses, including the maxillary sinus, frontal sinus, and anterior ethmoidal air cells.
