Vomerovaginal groove

Sulcus vomerovaginalis

Definition

Antoine Micheau, Muhammad A. Javaid

The vomerovaginal groove is a horizontal bony groove located on the upper surface of the vaginal process of the sphenoid bone. It extends from front to back. As the vaginal process of the sphenoid bone grows inward, the vomerovaginal groove converts into the vomerovaginal canal, also called the canalis vomerovaginalis. This canal is positioned beneath the wing-like projection or ala of the vomer bone that overlaps the vaginal process.
