Cervical part
Pars cervicalis
- Related terms: Cervical part of the trachea
Definition
The cervical part of the trachea is the segment of the trachea located in the neck, extending from the cricoid cartilage of the larynx to the thoracic inlet. It is positioned on the ventral midline, in close anatomical relation with the esophagus dorsally, as well as the carotid arteries, jugular veins, and recurrent laryngeal nerves laterally.
This portion is clinically important because it is easily accessible surgically (e.g., for a tracheotomy).
