Dorsal branch
Ramus dorsalis
Definition
The dorsal branch of the oculomotor nerve separates from the ventral branch of the oculomotor nerve as it enters the orbit. The dorsal branch is smaller than the ventral branch. It divides again into two delicate branches, one of which goes to the dorsal rectus muscle and the other to the levator palpebrae superioris, giving a few fibers to the retractor bulbi along the way.
