Lamina propria mucosae

Definition

Chloé Paris

The lamina propria mucosae is a loose connective tissue. It is a component of the various mucous membranes lining the body such as the respiratory tract; the gastrointestinal tract and the urogenital tract. It hosts many immune cells, thus contributing to the protection of the epithelium against external stresses.
