Nerve to external acoustic meatus
Nervus meatus acustici externi
Definition
The nerve of the external acoustic meatus arises in an isolated manner in the carnivore and man, whereas in other species it arises from a rostral auricular nerve. It is thin and is distributed to the skin of the external acoustic meatus. It can, depending on the subject, delegate a specific isolated branch for the modified skin that covers the external face of the tympanum: the tympanic membrane branch.
