Sagittal crest

In horses, the distal extremity of the third metacarpal bone bears a trochlea, which is subdivided into a slightly larger medial condyle and a smaller lateral condyle by the sagittal crest.

In carnivores, the sagittal crest is prominent and sharp-edged, and is located on the palmar part of the head of the metacarpals. It prevents lateral luxation of the two crescent-shaped sesamoid bones that articulate with these heads.
