肛管上2/3具有黏膜层（tunica mucosa）的纵行皱襞或隆起。其黏膜被覆单层柱状上皮。肛管腔在其上半部呈现数条纵行皱褶，由黏膜层及部分肌层向内折叠形成。这些结构称为肛柱（rectal columns；Morgagni柱），彼此之间由沟状凹陷（肛窦；rectal sinuses）分隔，肛窦下端终止于数个小瓣膜样皱襞，称为肛瓣（Ball瓣），连接各直肠柱的下端。
