迷走神经从颈静脉孔穿出后，与副神经的颅部汇合，并膨大形成第二个神经节样膨隆，称为下神经节（结状神经节；干神经节）；副神经颅部的纤维穿过此神经节时不发生中断，主要分布至迷走神经的咽支和喉上支，但其部分纤维沿迷走神经干下行，随喉返神经分布，可能也随心脏神经分布。
