  • Related terms: Alveus hippocampi

Definition

The alveus refers to certain white matter fibers that originate from the hippocampus and serve as pathways for efferent neurons from the hippocampus. These fibers come together on the medial side of the hippocampus, forming bundles known as the fimbria. Eventually, the fimbria extend and evolve into the crura of the fornix.
