Pes hippocampi

Pes hippocampi

Definition

The front or the lower end of the hippocampus expands, and presents two or three rounded elevations or digitations which give it a paw-like appearance, and hence it is named the pes hippocampi.

The main function of the hippocampus is associated with the formation of long-term memories. If the hippocampus is damaged, it can result in memory loss or amnesia.
