Buccal region

Regio buccalis

Definition

Antoine Micheau

The buccal region is defined as the anatomical area of the face corresponding to the cheek, specifically the region lateral to the oral cavity and bounded by the buccinator muscle medially and the skin of the cheek laterally. It encompasses the buccal mucosa, which is the lining of the inner cheek, and the buccal space, which contains structures such as the facial artery, facial vein, branches of the facial nerve, parotid duct, buccal fat pad, and lymphatic tissue.
