Choroidal enlargement

Glomus chorioideum

  • Latin synonym: Glomus choroideum

Definition

Muhammad A. Javaid

The choroidal enlargement (a.k.a. the glomus choroideum or glomus of the choroid plexus), is the enlarged and more highly folded portion of the choroid plexus located in the atrium (trigone) of the lateral ventricle.

The atrium is the region where the body of the lateral ventricle meets the occipital and temporal horns. As the choroid plexus passes through this region, its vascular fronds become more prominent and densely folded, producing the glomus.

Clinical correlate

The glomus choroideum or choroidal enlargement is readily visible on CT and MRI and commonly undergoes physiological calcification in adults, often bilaterally.
