Common basal vein
Vena basalis communis
- Related terms: Common basal vein of left lung
Definition
The common basal vein of the left lung is a pulmonary vein that drains the basal segments of the left lower lobe (segments 8, 9, and 10). It is formed by the confluence of segmental venous tributaries from these basal segments (superior basal vein of left lung and Inferior basal vein of left lung). The common basal vein then unite with the superior vein of left lung to form the left inferior pulmonary vein that empties into the left atrium.
