The superior basal vein of the left lung is a segmental tributary of the left inferior pulmonary vein that drains mainly the anterior basal segment of left lung (S8) and the lateral basal segment (S9) of the left lower lobe.

The superior basal vein can exhibit variations in its drainage pattern, sometimes forming common trunks with other basal veins or draining into different pulmonary venous tributaries than expected.
