Definition

The distal tendon of the rectus femoris muscle is part of the quadriceps tendon, which inserts into the patella. The rectus femoris tendon forms the most superficial layer of the quadriceps tendon and is relatively independent in this superficial layer of the quadriceps tendon, which also includes contributions from the vastus medialis and vastus lateralis in the intermediate layer, and the vastus intermedius in the deep layer.[1-2]
