Definition
The fasciae of the lower limb ar composed of dense connective tissue and have site-specific differences in thickness and mechanical properties, which are influenced by the underlying muscles and their functions, facilitating movement, and providing structural support. The main fasciae of the lower limb include:
1. Fascia lata: This is the deep fascia of the thigh, enveloping all the thigh muscles. It is reinforced laterally by the iliotibial tract.
2. Crural fascia: This fascia covers the muscles of the lower leg (crus) and is significant in the context of compartment syndrome.
3. Fascia iliaca: This fascia originates from the iliopsoas muscle. This fascia is also included in the fasciae of abdomen.
