Muscular space

Lacuna musculorum

Definition

Antoine Micheau

The muscular space (muscular lacuna; lacuna musculorum) is the lateral compartment located beneath the inguinal ligament for the passsage of the iliopsoas muscle and femoral nerve. It is separated from the medial vascular space by the iliopectineal arch.

The lateral cutaneous nerve of the thigh may pass through the muscular lacuna, or may pierce the inguinal ligament itself.
