Dorsal fascia of foot

Fascia dorsalis pedis

Definition

IMAIOS

The dorsal fascia of foot on the dorsum of the foot is a thin membranous layer, continuous above with the different retinaculums; on either side it blends with the plantar aponeurosis; anteriorly it forms a sheath for the tendons on the dorsum of the foot.

In other sources, the dorsal fascia of the foot is described as a multilayered connective tissue structure located on the dorsum (top) of the foot, deep to the skin and subcutaneous fat. Anatomically, it is organized into several distinct layers: the skin, a superficial fatty layer, the dorsal superficial fascia, an intermediate fatty layer, the superficial lamina of the dorsal deep fascia, a deep fatty layer, and the deep lamina of the dorsal deep fascia. The deep fascia envelops the extensor tendons and intrinsic muscles, providing compartmentalization and structural support.
