Dorsal fascia of hindfoot

Fascia dorsalis pedis

Definition

The dorsal fascia of hindfoot (Fascia dorsalis pedis) is thicker in its proximal part and gets thiner toward the digits. At the level of the tarsus and its surroundings, it reinforces itself to form solid transversal strips or retinaculums, meant to maintain the tendons of the cranial muscles of the leg exactly aplied  inside the convexity of the region. These strips can be sorted in two groups: at the dorsal surface of the region, the retinaculums of the extensors and on the lateral surface, a retinaculum of the fibular, reserved to the tendons of the fibular muscles.
