Musculus tensor fasciae latae

  • Synonym: Tensor muscle of fascia lata

Definition

Origin: Proximally to the tuber coxae and from the aponeurosis of the gluteus medius.

Insertion: Over the biceps femoris to the patella.

Action: Tension of the fascia lata and thus tension of the hip joint; extension of the stifle joint.

Nerve: Gluteus cranialis.
