Flexor retinaculum
Retinaculum flexorum
Definition
The flexor retinaculum is a very broad reinforcement of the plantar fascia located on the medial plantar surface of the calcaneus. It is subdivided into two parts:
The more lateral part is larger and serves as a sheath for the tendon of the flexor digitorum lateralis muscle.
The more medial part is smaller in size and serves as a sheath for the tendon of the flexor digitorum medialis muscle.
