Musculus gluteus [glutaeus] superficialis
- Synonym: Superficial gluteal muscle
Definition
Origin: Gluteal fascia, tuber sacrale, caudal fascia, lateral border of the sacrum, first caudal vertebra, and half of the proximal part of the sacrotuberous ligament.
Insertion: Trochanter tertius of the femur.
Action: Extension of the hip joint.
Nerve: Gluteus caudalis.
