Plantar quadrate muscle [Accessory flexor muscle]

Musculus quadratus plantae [Musculus flexor accessorius]

Definition

The plantar quadratus muscle (M. quadratus plantae, s.m. flexo accessorius), or accessory muscle of the flexor digitorum muscle, is located in Men on the deep face of the flexor digitorum muscle. It is made of two beams that take origin on each side of the plantar face and unite, after joining each other, to the tendon of the flexor digitorum and its branches of division.

In domestic Mammals, this muscle exists only in Carnivorous, as a vestige. It is a little beam that seems to represent only the lateral part of the one of Men.
