Erector spinae aponeurosis

Aponeurosis erectoris spinae

  • Latin synonym: Aponeurosis musculi erectoris spinae

Definition

Antoine Micheau

The erector spinae aponeurosis is a common aponeurosis that blends with the thoracolumbar fascia, with a proximal attachment on the sacrum an the spinous processes of the lumbar vertebrae, for the three erector spinae muscles (iliocostalis, longissimus, and spinalis) and overlying the inferior portion of the erector spinae muscles.

The erector spinae aponeurosis plays a significant role in the biomechanics of the spine, contributing to the stabilization and movement of the lumbar region. It circumscribes subcompartments and sliding areas between the thoracolumbar fascia and the lumbar paraspinal muscles, as well as between the different components of the erector spinae muscle group
