Fossa glandulae lacrimalis

Definition

Fossa for lacrimal gland is a shallow, bony depression located beneath the outer part of the bottom surface of the orbital plate of the frontal bone. This fossa contains the orbital part of the lacrimal gland, which is situated deep in the orbital cavity. The orbital part is larger than the palpebral part of the lacrimal gland. The palpebral part is smaller, more superficial, and positioned within the upper eyelid.
