Hippocampal sulcus
Sulcus hippocampalis
- Synonym: Hippocampal fissure
Definition
The Hippocampal sulcus, also called the hippocampal fissure, is a fissure that separates the dentate gyrus (on the side of the hippocampus), from the subiculum (on the side of the parahippocampus). This fissure starts immediately behind the splenium of the corpus callosum and extends forward to end in the uncus. It is responsible for the prominence of the hippocampus in the inferior horn of the lateral ventricle.
