Lateral dorsal nucleus

Nucleus dorsalis lateralis

  • Related terms: Laterodorsal nucleus

Definition

Lateral dorsal nucleus is a dorsal tier nucleus, of the lateral group of thalamic nuclei. The details of the connections of this nucleus are not clear, however, it is believed to have widespread cortical connections with the cingulate cortex and the parieto-occipitotemporal (POT) cortex. Through its connection with the POT cortex, lateral dorsal nucleus is believed to have a role in higher cognitive behavior including spatial awareness.
