Definition
The lumbocostal triangle (Bochdalek's foramen; Bochdalek's triangle) is a defect in the diaphragm normally posterior lateral. It is formed by the incomplete closure of the pericardioperitoneal canals by the pleuroperitoneal membrane.
This triangle is a potential weak spot in the diaphragm where herniation can occur.
