Medial root of median nerve

Radix medialis nervi mediani

Definition

Muhammad A. Javaid

The medial root of median nerve is one of the two roots that contribute to the formation of the median nerve, the other being the lateral root. It originates from the medial cord of the brachial plexus, which is derived from the anterior division of the lower trunk and contains fibers from the C8 and T1 nerve roots.

In the axilla, the medial root merges with the lateral root of the median nerve, which arises from the lateral cord. Together, they form the median nerve, a major peripheral nerve responsible for providing motor and sensory innervation to parts of the flexor region of the forearm and the hand.
