The orbital part of the lacrimal gland is the larger superior portion of the lacrimal gland situated within the lacrimal fossa on the superolateral part of the orbital roof in the frontal bone. It lies above the levator palpebrae superioris aponeurosis, which partially separates it from the smaller palpebral part.

Functions

Functionally, the orbital part contributes to production of the aqueous layer of the tear film, which lubricates, nourishes, and protects the ocular surface.
