Posterior temporal diploic vein

Vena diploica temporalis posterior

Definition

Antoine Micheau

The posterior temporal diploic vein is situated in the posterior temporal region and is the dominant diploic vessel in this area.

The posterior temporal diploic vein drains into the transverse and sigmoid sinuses. The draining point of the PTDV is consistently found in the asterional area, which is near the junction of the parietal, temporal, and occipital bones.[1] This vein plays a crucial role in the venous drainage of the posterior temporal region and can be a significant source of bleeding during neurosurgical procedures involving the posterior cranial fossa.
