Retroperitoneal lymph nodes

Nodi lymphoidei retropéritonales

Definition

Antoine Micheau

The retroperitoneal nodes are the parietal abdominal lymph nodes that include the inferior diaphragmatic nodes and the lumbar nodes, which are further divided into left lumbar (aortic), intermediate (interaorticovenous), and right lumbar (caval) nodes.

These nodes surround the aorta and inferior vena cava, with specific groups such as lateral aortic (paraaortic), preaortic, and retroaortic nodes around the aorta, and lateral caval (paracaval), precaval, and retrocaval nodes around the vena cava.
