Definition
The anatomy of the pelvic lymph nodes is complex and can be categorized based on their anatomical relationships with surrounding structures. The pelvic lymph nodes are typically divided into several groups, especially for description of the nomenclature of nodal metastases in pelvic tumors to facilitate proper staging. :
1. Common Iliac Nodes: located along the common iliac vessels.
2. External Iliac Nodes: situated along the external iliac vessels.
3. Internal Iliac Nodes: found along the internal iliac vessels.
4. Obturator Nodes: located in the obturator fossa.
5. Perivisceral nodes: nodes immediately adjacent to the pelvic viscera, that include pararectal, paravesical, parauterine and periprostatic nodes
6. The inguinal nodes belong to the nodes of lowerlimb but are commonly associated with the pelvic lymph node anatomy.
