Temporal operculum

Operculum temporale

Definition

The temporal operculum is the part of the temporal lobe the overlays the insula. It is part of the superior temporal gyrus and contributes to the lower lip of the lateral sulcus, which extends over the insular cortex.

There are other significant cortical opercula, such as the orbital, frontal, and fronto-parietal opercula, that also cover the insular cortex.
