Tendon of psoas major
Tendon musculi psoas major
Definition
The tendon of psoas major is the strong fibrous continuation of the muscle that forms near the inguinal ligament as its fibres converge. It joins the tendon of the iliacus to create the common iliopsoas tendon, which passes beneath the inguinal ligament and anterior to the hip joint capsule. The tendon inserts into the lesser trochanter of the femur, with some fibres extending further below onto the shaft. Functionally, the tendon transmits the powerful hip-flexing force of the psoas major to the femur.
