Fossa trochanterica
Definition
The trochanteric fossa is a compact concavity located on the inferior portion of the medial surface of the greater trochanter of the femur. This fossa serves as the insertion site for the obturator externus muscle. Positioned just above the trochanteric fossa, on the medial surface, one can observe the insertions of three additional muscles: the obturator internus muscle and the two Gemelli.
