Decussatio trochlearis

  • Latin synonym: Decussatio fibrarum nervorum trochlearium
  • Synonym: Decussation of trochlear nerve fibres; Decussation of trochlear nerve fibers
  • Related terms: Decussation of trochlear nerve fibres

Definition

The trochlear decussation (decussation of trochlear nerve fibres) is located in the superior medullary velum (in the white substance of the dorsal midbrain).

The trochlear nerve is the only cranial nerve that decussates. His fibers originate for the trochlear nucleus in the midbrain, course posteriorly along the periaqueducal gray substance, decussate in the dorsal midbrain, and emerge to the controlateral side and emerge just inferior to the inferior colliculus.
