Ascending aorta

Aorta ascendens

Definition

Juliette Garnodier

The ascending aorta is the initial portion of the aorta that emerges from the left ventricle through the aortic orifice. Located mainly within the pericardium, it forms the first segment of the systemic circulation and measures approximately 2 cm in the dog before continuing as the aortic arch. At its origin, it presents a dilation known as the aortic bulb.
