Bicarotid trunk

Truncus bicaroticus

Definition

Antoine Micheau

bicarotid trunk is when both the right and left common carotid arteries arise from a common trunk originating from the brachiocephalic trunk after the origin of the right subclavian artery. It is mainly found in horses and ruminants. In carnivores, the right and left common carotid arteries arise separately from the brachiocephalic trunk.

In humans, a bicarotid trunk is an anatomic variant in which both the right and left common carotid arteries arise from a common trunk originating from the aortic arch.
