Median caudal [coccygeal] artery

Arteria caudalis [coccygea] mediana

Definition

Anne-Sophie Emeric

The median caudal artery is the terminal branch of the median sacral artery, which continues to the tip of the tail. It is surrounded by the ventromedial sacrocaudal muscles.

Variation:

In equids, the median caudal artery is not continuous with the median sacral artery, which is too thin and ends at the level of the sacrum. It is supplied by branches coming from the gluteal artery.
