In dogs, the apex of the is continued to the ventral part of the muscular periphery of the diaphragm in the form of a dorsoventrally flattened band of yellow elastic fascicles termed the phrenicopericardiac ligament (lig. phrenicopericardiacum). This is nearly 1 cm wide, less than 1 mm thick, and approximately 5 mm long.
