Definition
The vertex is a region of the top of the cranium.
In humans, the vertex corresponds to the highest point of the skull, located at the cranial vault (between the parietal eminences). However, this is not always the case in domestic animals: depending on the species, the highest point may be either the vertex or certain bony prominences of the occiput.
