脊髓后角（或背角）的后角尖是指其最后端的区域。从细胞构筑学角度来看，后角尖与Rexed第I层相对应。该区域含有一列神经元胞体，称为边缘带（或边缘核），又名后边缘核或边缘层。

边缘带（以及胶状质）主要处理来自传入纤维（初级感觉神经元）的痛觉和温度觉等感觉信息。该神经核作为中继站，通过脊髓丘脑束等上行传导通路，将信号传递至高级脑中枢——丘脑和初级感觉皮层。
