Definition
The anterior gray commissure is a component of the spinal cord's gray matter, located within spinal area X—also referred to as the central intermediate substance. Positioned anterior to the central canal, it serves as a key structure that interconnects the ventral (anterior) horns of gray matter on the right and left sides of the spinal cord.
Together, the anterior and posterior gray commissures form the entirety of spinal area X. This region extends laterally, transitioning into the lateral intermediate substance of the spinal cord.
